Where we've landed.

Hello everyone!  Guten Tag!

It's been a bit of a whirlwind week, but in a very nice way - so that it's not been stressful, just busy.

We're staying at a guesthouse near the city center which is convenient to Dan's office and Devin and Merlin's school.  We've been walking everywhere, sometimes more than once, and the weather has been cool but still comfortable.  I've not really been taking pictures, but that will come soon.

Dan flew from Beijing and Devin, Merlin and I left from San Francisco, meeting at the Frankfurt airport, where we bought train tickets and stopped for a bite to eat.  Dan pulled two small wine glasses from his bag (how did he do that?) and bought a small bottle of champagne to toast the occasion of this new adventure.  Talk about romantic!

Here we are at the Frankfurt train station.

If I'd done my photojournalist duty I'd have taken pictures of the train, too - very clean and nice... but maybe I can be forgiven for my combination of travel-stupor and the fact that our hands were already full with far too much stuff.

Here's what our two bedroom guesthouse apartment looks like (and the view outside).

Photos of this lovely town will follow soon!

Great to hear (and see) from you. We're so happy you are all together and are sure Goettingen is now a much more interesting place.

Yay! thanks for stopping by and commenting, Bill! I can't attest to Goettingen's increase in interesting-ness - it's full of innate charm that I don't think we make a dent in. :)

Chantel,

I was hoping we could stop in Maryland before taking off for Germany but the summer was cram-packed with moving stuff. I made it by a hair's breadth...

What's this about a move west? Of course nearly any move from MD would be some sort of west, but still...

??

I spent about 10 hours in the Frankfurt airport once & it was quite nice though it was my first time in a foreign land so everything was kind of amazing. I was wondering what kind of school the girls go to? I imagine the language barrier might not be so bad since the schools there teach foreign languages much more so than most schools here. Also,( since my school didn't teach geography either ; ) how far away from Berlin are you? Nat & I have talked about going there for the museums & zoos & now we have an excuse!

Hi Carissa! I wish we could've gotten together this summer - I was shocked by how fast the time went and how full of moving preparations it was.

Kate,

we're about 3.5 hours from Berlin (if we had a car)... I'm not sure how far by train. I don't think there's much in the way of museums and zoos here in Goettingen. We're working on finding a house with an extra bedroom that can double as a guest room. Wish us luck!

The girls' school is a bilingual-track public school with some extra langauge offerings for non-native German speakers that will be arranged shortly. They've plunged right in.
